PRIVATE GARDENER

Helping others grow their food is one of our favorite things to do. We’re so glad you’re here. Let’s get started!

What you’ll get

  • Initial on-site consultation

  • Customized plan for raised garden beds. We can help coordinate the construction of new beds if desired.

  • We work together to create a planting plan based on the fruits and veggies you like to eat and those you’re eager to try. We aim to grow veggies all year long (yes, including the winter months). The frequency of visits fluctuates in the winter based on necessity. If you prefer to put your gardens to bed in the winter, we’ll plant some cover crops instead.

  • We’ll load your beds with rich soil or amend your current beds.

  • Once your beds are established, we’ll do all the rest. We’ll start your seeds both on site and in our own potting shed. We’ll tend to your plants each week, plant successions of your most used veggies, and harvest plants as they ready.

  • Each week, we’ll leave your harvested vegetables in a designated spot for you to enjoy come mealtime. This can be in your refrigerator, or a cooler with ice.

  • Access to a members-only recipe portal.

  • Preserved harvests. If you have surplus fruits and vegetables (we can also plan for this), we will pickle, jam, and dehydrate them for you. We are thrilled to include this bonus feature to our private garden package as it is one of our favorite things to do.

  • Texting access. Can’t wait til your next check-in? Send us pictures and ask questions as needed.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • No matter what time of the year it is, this is our most asked question. The truth is depending on your commitment, vegetables can be grown all year long with the right supplies and planting. So why not start now?

  • The majority of vegetables require 6 hrs of sunshine per day. The south side of your house typically gets the most sun. But we can work with you to find the perfect location.

  • Irrigation to your raised beds is required for the private garden package. We can commision a irrigation specialist to come install the correct drip system for you.

  • This is a hard question to answer. We recommend planter boxes in any of the following configurations depending on your space:

    • 4'x4'

    • 4'x8'

    • 3'x6'

Determining how many of each size you need will take some consultation. Be prepared to answer the following questions in order to narrow things down:

    • What are your favorite vegetables you already eat?

    • How often do you eat vegetables and how much?

    • How many people are we trying to feed?

We find that succession planting and high-intensity planting allow for the largest harvests in the smallest places. But on the conservative side 200 sq ft of garden space will feed a family of 2 if planned appropriately. The more the better, but we understand certain limitations.

  • The cost covers the service of tending to your beds on a weekly basis, the preserving of any surplus harvest, the seeds, starts, soil amendments (compost, biochar, etc), fertilizers, plant tags, and when necessary organic pest control.

    It does not cover:

    • The raised beds or construction of beds

    • The soil

    • Irrigation

    • Additional supports (tomato structures, covers, trellises, etc)

*We'll work with you to generate a quote for all services and supplies that are not covered. We'll also commission the services (bed construction, irrigation) and purchase the additional supplies needed if you prefer.

  • Everything we do in your garden will be done using organic methods including pest management and fertilization. We do use synthetic fertilizers since nitrogen is nitrogen regardless of the form. Learn more about that here. If you have further questions about our practices please reach out, we're happy to chat.
